University of Notre Dame

Dear Colleagues:

On February 25-27, 2009, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics (JINA) will offer at Notre Dame a refresher and training course on R-matrix techniques with AZURE. We are planning for one day of lecture in background theory and two days of practical analysis of existing data with AZURE - you can bring your own data. The code will be provided.

R-matrix theory is one of the essential tools for reliably interpreting nuclear reaction and scattering data. This technique is particularly important for the extrapolation of low energy cross sections in nuclear astrophysics. The increasing need for the use of R-Matrix techniques requires special training and easily accessible general purpose R-matrix codes. In October of 2004, JINA held a special school for R-matrix theory and applications at the Institute for Structure and Nuclear Astrophysics (ISNAP) of the University of Notre Dame to address these needs. The participants profited a lot from the course.

This year's course will be primarily designed for students and postdocs with interest in performing R-matrix analysis with their data. Participants will be selected from applications. Please submit an application through the JINA website (JINA 2009 R-matrix School Application).
