We are organizing a worskhop centered on the Soreq
Applied Research Accelerator Facility (SARAF), currently under construction
at Soreq Nuclear Research Facility (Israel). SARAF, a high-intensity
superconductive linear 40 MeV accelerator for light ions, belongs
to a new generation of accelerators and will contribute to the continuing
tradition of experimental science in Israel. We hope it will also
promote collaboration within our region and extend collaborations
between scientists of various countries. In this sense, the workshop
may be the first of a series centered on different upcoming laboratories.
The aim of the present workshop is to bring the potential
of the SARAF laboratory to the knowledge of researchers in several
related fields of science and mainly in nuclear science. Through presentations
of state-of-the-art research, we hope to help identifying areas where
the specific properties of the new accelerator would likely make significant
contributions. The workshop is expected also to seed collaborative
efforts between research groups.
The workshop will take place at Maale Hahamisha Guest
House on October 27-29, 2008 (Monday through Wednesday). Maale Hahamisha
is a kibbutz situated in the hills close to Jerusalem, with easy transport
connections with the Ben Gurion International Airport and the main
cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem (see http://www.inisrael.com/maale5/).
A visit of the SARAF accelerator and a half-day tour in Jerusalem
are planned. Information regarding registration and booking of accommodations
will be made available in forthcoming circulars. There will be no
registration fees to the Worskhop and its activities. We are presently
looking for sources of support for local expenses and will advise
on those at a later stage.
Sessions:
1. Overview talks
2. SARAF Technical Description and Status
3. New facilities and science programs
4. Nuclear astrophysics: experiment and theory
5. Research with neutron beams, neutrinos, ion/atom traps
6. Production of radioactive nuclei and beams
7. Biomedical nuclear science
8. Pharmaceutical isotope production
