Summer Camp @ University of Notre Dame

The theme for the 2009 program was Sensing Our World Go GreeND! The program involved students in both understanding and responding to some of the most serious problems threatening our planet. They learned about the fundamental forces underlying super-conductivity, solar radiation, the physics of energy, how chemists are developing biodegradable alternatives to consumer goods, the malaria parasite in human evolution, environmental philosophy, and ecological adaptation. They also investigated the lakes and forested areas on campus, and toured the ND power plant.

This year's talented and generous teaching and special projects staff featured:
Dr. H. Gordon Berry – Department of Physics
John Brown and the ND Power Plant Staff
Melanie Bunda – Graduate Student, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry
Dr. Keith Davis – Notre Dame Digital Visualization Theater
Dr. Morten Eskildsen – Department of Physics
Dr. Kasturi Haldar - Director, Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases
Elizabeth High – Undergraduate Student, Department of Physics
Dr. Prashant Kamat – Chemical Engineering and the ND Radiation Lab
Adam Lamm – Undergraduate Student, Department of Biological Sciences
Peter Levi – Department of Biological Sciences
Karen Morris – Chemistry & Biochemistry; Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE)
Patrick Murphy – Director, Notre Dame Energy Center

We are especially grateful to the Sponsors of Sensing Our World Go GreeND!, for their financial support that confirms our belief that today’s children are our most valuable natural resource and most worthy of investment. Tomorrow’s science leaders will come from inspired, motivated, and encouraged students who have the curiosity to imagine and dream without limits.
